Special Student Matinée of Mahalia
Mahalia Jackson's story is a tale torn from the pages of history, and an essential one to share with our children during Black History Month. Besides her interactions with President John F. Kennedy and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., She made history herself, crashing through racial barriers. She permanently changed the recording industry while she paved the way for waves of gospel artists, single-handedly proving that consumer demand existed for Black sacred music.
As part of Lorraine Hansberry Theatre Youth Academy's ImaginARTS Program in the San Francisco Unified School District, there will be a special morning matinée performance of Mahalia on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, priced for student groups. All schools, from all districts in all cities and towns may participate. Admission is FREE for students and chaperons to attend this event. College Groups are also encouraged. Parents and educators, please encourage your school to participate! Call 415 345-3980 or send an email to ImaginARTS
